With French filmmaker Philippe Grandrieux, Wagner was given a dream companion de route. Grandrieux's radical films are bathed in a sensuous twilight darkness where sound and image merge. His direction places Isolde at the focus of Wagner's opera, announcing itself as a fever dream in which music, video and dance become one.
